9. Lydia Bennet
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
In this week's episode we discuss a second fictional character. This time we talk about Ms. Lydia Bennett from Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice. We provide a brief summary of the book and author, then discuss how Lydia is represented in the novel (and certain film adaptations). We also investigate how she was perceived by her sisters, her parents, and society at large. Then we talk about some of the reasons Lydia might have acted the way she did, considering what might have been going on in her head, but more importantly, how society and those around her affected her decisions in life. Finally we wrap up with what we think Lydia represents when we look beyond her categorization as a silly teenage girl.

5. Women and What They Wear
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
In this week's episode, we talk about what women wear and why they wear it, including how we’ve been judged for what we wear and how (and why) we’ve judged others. This is followed by what the media has been saying about women and clothing on a number of topics, including size, age, and more. Then we dip into some of the societal reasons behind these issues (cough, cough: the patriarchy and capitalism). Finally we address the impact that these judgements have on women in today's world.

Wednesday Sep 22, 2021
Wednesday Sep 22, 2021
In this episode, we’re doing something different. We’re going to talk about a fictional character: Regina Geroge from Mean Girls. We’re going to discuss her “mean-girl” facade and how other characters perceived her based on the image she portrayed and how she openly (or not so openly) treated them. And then we’re going to talk about some of the reasons she might have acted that way. Dig a little below the surface. Finally we’ll wrap up with our predictions for Regina “17 years later” (Harry Potter style, lol!... okay that was 19 years later, but you get the idea!)

In this episode, we will be discussing Cyntoia Brown, a now 33 year old woman, who was arrested for murder when she was only a 16 year old child. The jury did not agree with her plea of self-defense and she was convicted. While it may be unknown if she truly acted in self-defense, the fact is, she was a child forced into sex trafficking. Brown’s conviction and subsequent release has led her to speak out about the criminal justice system and work to change it.
Trigger warnings for domestic abuse, rape, and underage sex trafficking.
